Fauvel a perdu un œil suite à un tir de LBD. Elle accepte de garder la chienne du père d'une de ses amies dans une maison isolée à la campagne. Hannah n'est pas un chien comme les autres, c'est le clone d'une première Hannah, qui trône empaillée au milieu du salon. Elle suscite les peurs et les reproches muets du village, à mesure qu'on découvre au matin des animaux massacrés, et qu'elle-même rentre parfois ensanglantée. <br/><br/>Cette situation est le point de départ d'un récit de traque et de cauchemar délicatement progressif, la plupart du temps fantomatique. Jamais l'assaillant n'est clairement nommé, jamais la cible n'est clairement identifiée. Fauvel sait être une proie, mais de qui ? Dans le village, un groupe de chasseurs, tous ouvriers ou anciens ouvriers de l'usine d'eau minérale, peu loquaces et mal lotis par la vie, font naître les fantasmes, tantôt sexuels, tantôt horrifiques. Et plus particulièrement chez Fauvel, coupée du monde par sa conscience éparpillée, et chez Mitch, un jeune sociologue qui enquête sur les récits d'enlèvements par les extraterrestres, nombreux dans la région, surtout chez les anciens ouvriers de l'usine.<br/><br/>Au fil d'une pseudo-enquête hallucinée, le roman explore les notions de domination, d'animalité et de violence. À travers la proximité, voire l'amalgame entre animaux et humains, Aliène questionne la nature de ce qui est caché, la vie animale, et surtout l'instinct de peur. Tel est le véritable fil du récit, rarement traité avec autant de nuance et de force. |

Fauvel lost an eye after being hit by a rubber bullet. She agrees to look after the dog belonging to one of her friend’s fathers in a secluded house in the countryside. But Hannah isn’t like other dogs—she’s a clone of the first Hannah, who now stands stuffed in the middle of the living room. The villagers’ silent fears and suspicions grow as more and more animals are found slaughtered at dawn, and as Hannah herself sometimes returns covered in blood.<br/><br/>This situation marks the beginning of a haunting and progressively nightmarish tale, often ghostly in tone. The attacker is never clearly named, nor is the target ever clearly identified. Fauvel knows she’s being hunted—but by whom? In the village, a group of hunters—all workers or former workers from the mineral water factory, taciturn and battered by life—become the source of fantasies, sometimes sexual, sometimes horrific. Especially for Fauvel, cut off from the world by her scattered mind, and for Mitch, a young sociologist studying stories of alien abductions—common in the area, particularly among the factory’s former workers.<br/><br/>Through this hallucinatory pseudo-investigation, the novel delves into ideas of domination, animality, and violence. By blurring the line between animals and humans, Aliène questions the hidden forces of life—the animal within—and above all, the instinct of fear. This, ultimately, is the true thread of the story, explored here with rare subtlety and power. |
