Antártida 1947 : la guerra que nunca existió / Felipe Botaya

Entre junio y agosto de 1945 varios submarinos alemanes aparecieron sorprendentemente en aguas argentinas. ¿Qué hacían allí varios meses después del fin de la II Guerra Mundial? Estados Unidos confirmó sus peores temores: la Alemania nazi tenía un último reducto militar y científico en la Antártida, la Base 211. Se pone en marcha, entonces, la Operación Highjump, al mando del almirante Richard E. Byrd, destinada a destruir el enclave germano bajo la excusa oficial de probar el material militar en condiciones extremas de frío. Al mismo tiempo, y de manera secreta, el capitán de submarinos Patrick Malone recibe la orden de atacar la Base 211 como apoyo a la operación de superficie y como «Caballo de Troya».

Between June and August 1945, several German submarines surprisingly appeared in Argentine waters. What were they doing there, various months after the end of World War II? The United States confirmed its worst fears: Nazi Germany had a last military and scientific stronghold in Antarctica, Base 211. Operation Highjump is then launched, under the command of Admiral Richard E. Byrd, aimed at destroying the German enclave under the official pretext of testing military equipment under freezing conditions. At the same time, and secretly, submarine captain Patrick Malone receives the order to attack Base 211 in support of the surface operation and as a “Trojan Horse".
